Sol. 2.6 Power mgmt on older sparcs

I posted the following message on this list:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a bunch of Ye Olde Classic/LX/SS10s and some of them are exhibiting

a strange problem. Namely, the systems in question are dying from lack of

attention. If a sparc has not been used for a couple of days it seems to

die quietly. The display goes blank, and does not respond to kbd or mouse

activity. The system does not respond to ping either, so the system is

really dead. On the other hand, sometimes when I powercycle the system

it does not fsck the disk, so it seems to have gone through a proper

shutdown. I have played around with /etc/power.conf and the dtpower

utility to no avail. I have disabled autoshutdown, and in desperation

even disabled the powerd daemon. I still see this behavior from time to

time.

Many thanks to the following for their prompt reply:

Stephen Frost <sfrost@mitretek.org>

Richard Skelton <rich@brake.demon.co.uk>

Casper Dik <casper@holland.Sun.COM>

It turned out that Sun has a patch for this problem. I have applied the

patch and in the last one week the problem has not surfaced. I would like

to express my sincerest thanks to the readers of this list for quickly

pointing me to the right direction. I have attached the description of the

patch at the end of my message.

Sincerely,

Sunando Sen
