2: /bin/last and wu-ftpd-2.4: connections recordings: HOW ?

Hello,

in my previous summary, I told you how I have solved my problem (see bellow

after the signature).

Since, I received mails from Tony and Michael. I include their messages here

because Tony gives a good wu-ftpd URL and Michael corrects one mistake

about the location of the xferlog file when using his wu-ftpd package

(SUN '.pkg' format).

You will not see the files in this directory - because they are

"hidden". This site ( ftp.academ.com ) is the host site for the

development of wu-ftpd. I'm including a copy of the announcement for

this version below.

You should try transferring the file without looking for it with the

directory command. If that fails, you can get it from our ftp server at

ftp://ftp.newcastle.edu.au/pub/unix/src/wu-ftpd-2.4.2-beta-18.tar.Z

Regards

Tony

Hello,

xferlog works with my package. But since I changed source code

it is in a different location, /opt/local/log/xferlog. But I am

glad that your problem is resolved.

Subject: SUMMARY: /bin/last and wu-ftpd-2.4: connections recordings: HOW ?

Hello,

My problem is solved now. /bin/last shows all the ftp connections and I have

all the transfers logged as before in /var/adm/messages and in

/var/adm/xferlog. You will find my first message at the end of this mail.

Thanks to the following persons for their answers:

Tony Nicholson <Tony.Nicholson@newcastle.edu.au>

Wales Wong <wawong@ouhk.edu.hk>

Anita Kirby <AnitaK@bne.secmail.com.au>

Michael Wang <mwang@tech.cicg.ml.com>

Michael Wang has an intersting wu-ftpd package in SUN pkgadd format

(ULwuftp.pkg). You can get it at:ftp://ftp.mindspring.com/users/mwang/ .

It works and is easy to install. I tried it but had problems to log transfers

in /var/adm/xferlog. Logging transfers in /var/adm/messages works and the last

command shows the ftp connections.

Finally I transfered wu-ftpd-2.4.2-beta-18 as suggested by Tony Nicholson. You

can get it at:

ftp://ftp.vr.net/pub/wu-ftpd/wu-ftpd-2.4.2-beta-18-vr10.tar.gz.

I start ftpd with the -l and -a options in /etc/inetd.conf and I changed

'#define USE_ETC' to '#define USE_LOCAL_ETC' before running

'build sol' in wu-ftpd-2.4.2-beta-18-vr10/ because my ftpd config files ares

stored in /usr/local/etc .

Now every thing is working.

Christophe.
