Solaris 2.3 Compiler licenses/license manager

Problem:

Host configured with Flexlm license manager and one license for

        SPARCompiler C 2.0.1. When we installed SPARCompiler C 3.0.1,

running lmstat on the combined license file indicates that we

have a total of two C licenses available as expected. However,

'cc' indicates that only one of the licenses seems to be available.

Solution:

I had assumed that 'cc' would run both 2.0.1 and 3.0.1, dependent

upon which one was available/not in use. However, it turns out that

the SPARCompiler C 3.0.1 installation creates a new cc-3.0.1 binary

in /opt/SUNWspro/bin. Running the 'cc' binary ties up the 2.0.1

license. The license manager DOES distinguish between 2.0.1 licenses

and 3.0.1 licenses. To use the 3.0.1 license, you need to explicitly

        call the cc-3.0.1 binary.

One reply suggested upgrading the 2.0.1 license to 3.0.1 which is

apparently done free of charge under the maintenance agreement. This

sounds like the best solution as it does away with the two separate

versions, meaning that ALL users can use 'cc'.
