SUNWsprot missing when installing Sunscreen 3.1 lite
I am a newbie to Solaris and encountered a couple
questions, listed below, after installing Solaris 8
1/01 on my SunBlade 100. I used the "Operating
Environment installtion CD" shipped with the machine
and installed the 8_recommened patches.
Question 1:
Lots of stuff, like vold, tcsh, and apache are not
installed. Documents say all these should be installed
by default. But there is no option throughout the
whole installation process. I guess mine is just a
core installation. Is there any way I can install
those software from the installation CD?
Question 2:
When I tried to install Sunscreen 3.1 lite, it says
"SUNWsprot is missing". Some messages from mailing
list say I should be able to install this package from
the installation CD and it is under
".../product/SUNWsprot". But there is no such dir
under my CD. How can I figure which file I need for
this SUNWsprot?
Question 3:
I care a lot about security. So I disabled most of the
services, e.g. finger, echo, and ftp etc. But I can't
disable smtp because there is no smtp entry in
inetd.conf. How come? And "nmap -P0 -sT localhost"
shows as follows. If this machine only serves as web
server, then all I need is X11. Am I correct? And what
is this dtspc?
Port State Service
25/tcp open smtp
111/tcp open sunrpc
512/tcp open exec
514/tcp open shell
587/tcp open submission
4045/tcp open lockd
6000/tcp open X11
6112/tcp open dtspc
32774/tcp open sometimes-rpc11
32775/tcp open sometimes-rpc13
32776/tcp open sometimes-rpc15
32777/tcp open sometimes-rpc17
32778/tcp open sometimes-rpc19
32779/tcp open sometimes-rpc21
32780/tcp open sometimes-rpc23
32786/tcp open sometimes-rpc25
32787/tcp open sometimes-rpc27
I'll summary all these questions.
Thanks,
Sam
